June 13: Metro Vancouver Annual Open Mic Night

I’ve put my name down and will be reading from Listening to the Bees!

Back by popular demand, CA–MV’s Open Mic night is a great way to catch up on what local authors are writing…

…Each reader is allocated a five-minute segment. This includes any comments about the work. From experience, we suggest keeping the intro to five or ten seconds to maximize reading time. The average five-minute speech consists of 650 words. Please aim for your reading to be between 625 and 650 words.

Carol Tulpar is the host. Robert W. Mackay is the moderator. He’s firm and fair. Each presenter will be advised when there is one minute left. Readers who go over their time will hear applause to indicate their time is up. The moderator’s word is final.”

  • Location: BC Alliance for Arts + Culture, Suite 100, 938 Howe Street, Vancouver
  • Date and Time: June 13 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
  • Cost: Members no charge. Guests $10. Students with ID $5. Pay at the door.

June 15-19: Canadian Writer’s Summit

Toronto Skyline

Will be in Toronto next week for #CWS2016, with The Writer’s Union of Canada (TWUC), Canadian Authors Association (CAA), League of Canadian Poets (LCP) and the Canadian Creative Writers and Writing Programs (CCWWP) all as programming partners:

The Canadian Writers’ Summit will be a four-day extravaganza of professional development sessions, keynote talks, pedagogy and policy discussions, scholarly presentations, public lectures, networking opportunities and social gatherings. #CWS2016 will also include a day of fascinating programming from the annual Book Summit, which focuses on the publishing side of our sector.”

I will be hosting a Saturday panel presentation with Nancy Pagh and Jen Curring along with a “lunch and learn” with Heather Wood regarding equity issues. Hope to see some familiar faces there!
