During the process of writing children of air india, at Art Song Lab, I began a series of artistic engagements and connections, discovering a new way of looking at my poetic practice.
Canadian composer Jeffrey Ryan, first got me thinking about the possibility of song suites and the poems inside the book.
And with the help of a B.C. Arts Council grant, I stepped over the threshold, text to music: fascinating, to enter the world of composition, with Sandy Moore, John Oliver,Jurgen Simpson and Owen Underhill.
This August I had the great good fortune to travel to Ireland with Owen Underhill (Turning Point Ensemble) and collaborate with composer Jürgen Simpson and artistic director Tom Creed. I’m sorry I’ll miss this fascinating film festival. For anyone in or interested in going to Limerick, Ireland:
Light Moves is Ireland’s first festival focusing specifically on screendance/dance film. It is a response to the vibrant and expanding field of screendance in Ireland and joins a range of similar initiatives internationally in providing a platform for new works and a forum for development and enquiry in this exciting area.”
